This favourable rate applies to properties with a purchase price of up to £625,000. However, from 31 March 2025, this threshold will reduce. The nil-rate band will drop to £300,000, and the maximum purchase price to qualify will be £500,000.
What does this mean for you? If you’re a first-time buyer and purchase a property worth £425,000 today, you’ll pay no stamp duty on it. But if you wait until after March 2025, you’ll face an additional £6,250 in stamp duty fees on the same property—making now a far more attractive time to buy.
