  • Spotlight on…The Fewston at The Bridge, Haworth

    The Fewston

When you’re reserving a home off-plan it can be hard to get a sense of what it will look like once it’s complete, and what it will be like to actually live in it. With that in mind, we’re catching up with some of our happy homeowners to shine a spotlight on their Skipton Properties homes.

First up, The Fewston, which you’ll find at The Bridge, our development in the historic village of Haworth. The unique, slightly quirky layout of this property really appealed to our homeowners. They are pleased with how much space they have, with visitors describing their home as a ‘Tardis’ and commenting on the high ceilings. The Fewston’s accommodation is spread over three floors, with living space on the ground and second floors and bedrooms on the first. This townhouse-style configuration is both hard to come by in the local area and eminently adaptable. As young professionals who often work from home it suited our customers to use their third bedroom as an office, and they’ve found they’re very productive working in such happy surroundings!

The airy living spaces at The Fewston particularly appealed to these homeowners. They like to entertain so they love the island kitchen on the ground floor and the open plan second floor, which leads to a large roof terrace. This low-maintenance space is ideal if gardening isn’t your forte – simply add some pot plants and outdoor furniture to create a dream al fresco space. The Fewston homes have been cleverly positioned to maximise natural light. Our customers moved in just in time to enjoy the last of the summer sun, which catches the roof terrace in the afternoon, while morning rays greet them from the balcony leading off their master suite.

Our homeowners enjoy the privacy and quiet their new home affords them whilst being within easy walking distance of the village centre. They love the beautiful view from the rear of the property, which takes in Bridgehouse Beck and the railway, and often see deer in the field opposite. The driveway also provides extra privacy, as The Fewston is set back from the street, and coupled with the garage it means there are no worries when it comes to parking.

Being able to personalise their home with their choice of worktops, door fronts and handles in the kitchen and tiling there and in the bathrooms really appealed to this couple. They recommend thinking carefully about how you’ll use your Skipton Properties home and making the most of the opportunity to customise it. Many options are included in the purchase price, with the option to pay for additional extras.

Our customers are loving their home. Just five of these distinctive modern properties are now remaining at The Bridge, priced from £280,000, so why not discover The Fewston for yourself? Our Show Home is open Thursday-Monday 10:30am-5pm and you can contact our Sales Advisor Lisa on 01535 288009 to find out more.

  • Help to Buy – the facts

    helptobuy1

A few of our customers have been confused recently about what the Help to Buy Equity Loan is and whether they are eligible.  Today, we’d like to make the scheme clear so that more of you can benefit from the government’s help.

The Help to Buy Equity Loan is a scheme launched by the HM Government in 2013 and will run until 2020. The goal is to get more homeowners on the property ladder by helping them to buy a new home with only a 5% deposit. It is not restricted to first time buyers and can help anyone in England as long as you meet the criteria.

    What are the criteria?

Your home must be less than £600,000

You must not sublet your property

This must be the only property you own, however you do not need to be a first time buyer. You can be an existing homeowner looking to move

It is only available in England, but other regions run similar schemes

    How does it work?

The government lends you 20% so that you are able to get a mortgage on your property. This loan is interest free for the first 5 years. After that there will be interest to repay at 1.75% of the loan value. This interest will rise each year (after the first 5 interest free years) with the Retail Price Index plus 1%.

  • Help to Buy ISA

Many of our customers have benefitted from a little government help to get onto the property ladder. With only a 5% deposit requirement it’s an attractive helping hand. I’m sure a lot of you have heard about Help to Buy, but some of you may not know about the ISA the government is now offering to help you save for your future.

    How does it work?

For every pound you save, the government will boost your savings by 25% up to a maximum government bonus of £3,000. This can rise to £6,000 if you are buying with a partner as the bonus is available to individuals and not households. If that doesn’t encourage you to save to buy a new home, we’re not sure what will!

Anything else you need to know?

The minimum bonus is £400 so that means you’d have to have saved £1,600 into your ISA before you can benefit from the bonus. To apply you will have to inform your solicitor so that they can apply for you when buying your home.

Rates have come down since the ISA scheme launched: the bank rate you will earn on your money will be slightly less than it was. Why? This is because the Bank of England has slashed interest rates, however the government bonus has remaining unchanged so there are still benefits from saving.

    Who offers the ISA?

Banks include Halifax, Nationwide, Natwest and Santander.
